Discover Sitges

We can begin to discover the old quarter from the town hall (1887-1889) built on the site of the former medieval castle. It is considered to be in the Catalan civil Gothic style due to the ornamental details of the windows and the coats of arms. In front and on the right hand side are the gardens and statue of Doctor Robert and then the buildings of the Rectory (parish priest's house) and the Municipal Historical Archive (check opening times if you want to visit, it has historical and administrative documents. Tel. +34 93 811 76 28) and finally the Santiago Rusiñol library with a bibliographic and heritage collection that characterises it as a library specialising in the artistic and literary movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Just around the corner begins carrer d'en Bosc, where you will find "El Palau del Rei Moro" (a medieval house that is the seat of the Agrupació de Balls Populars de Sitges) and next to it, the Sitges Art Gallery (Fundació Stämpfli).

This street is one of the oldest in Sitges and is an old coastal path that followed the profile of the wall, along which some stone houses were built in the 14th century, now restored. From here we can visit the museums: Museu Cau Ferrat, Maricel Museum and palace, Museo Romàntic, which is more in the centre of the village.

In the centre of the village and along the promenade you can see the houses in the style of the time that were built by traders and adventurers returning from the Indies with large sums of money, the so-called Indianos or Americanos (1850-1930).
