Start the tour

In the center of Sitges we find the town hall (1887-1889) built on the site where once stood the medieval castle. It is considered a civil gothic Catalan style by the ornamental details of windows and shields. In front and to the right there are the gardens and statue of Doctor Robert, then the buildings of the rectory (parsonage) and the Historical Local Archive (check opening times if you want to visit it, Tel. +34 93 811 76 28) and finally the Santiago Rusiñol library, with a bibliographic endowment, specialist in artistic and literary movements of the late sXIX and beginning of the sXX (it is now under reconstruction).

Leaving the library we can visit  Casa Bacardí, modernist building from 1890. It offers an experience to learn the history of Sitges, the relationship with the Americans and the Bacardi family and elaborate the best cocktails.

Just around the corner starts d’en Bosc’s street where we find the Palau del Rei Moro (medieval house, headquarters Agrupació de Balls Populars de Sitges ) and next, the Pinacoteca de Sitges (Fundació Stämpfli)

This street is one of the oldest in Sitges and it is an ancient coastal path that followed the profile of the wall to which a stone houses were built in the s. XIV and today we contemplate restored. Just from this point we can visit: Museu Cau Ferrat, Museu i Palau Maricel and the Romantic Museum, this last one is the center of the village.

At the town center and along the promenade we can observe the American style houses, they were build by empreneteurs and adventurers when they returned to Catalonia after having gained fortunes in the Americas, especially Cuba and Puerto Rico, they were called the Americans (1850-1930). In this link are the description and location of the houses: See the houses
